    Description:

    Large superbly embellished map of Saxon England by one of the most well known dynasty of Dutch mapmakers.

    A very decorative C18th map of England by one of the great Dutch family of mapmakers, with title cartouche at top right with a the royal crest below, an ornate scale of distances at lower left and above that, two cupids holding a crown.

    The Visschers were a Dutch family of mapmakers, engravers and publishers who became one of the largest firms in Holland in the seventeenth century. As none of the Visschers atlases were issued with printed dates, it has always been difficult to precisely date their maps.

    Description:

    Very detailed, large scale map of southern India focusing on the Malabar and Coromandel coasts by the French Royal cartographer, D'Isle with an ornate title at lower right, a scale of distances at left and compass roses on either side on the continent.

    Pieter Mortier & Covens publishing interests covered a wide fielding including French, English and Dutch maps. On Mortiers death his son Cornelis took over the business and in 1721 he married the sister of Johannes Covens and in the same year entered into partnership as publishers. Covens and Mortier became one of the most important firms in the Dutch map publishing business.
