William Henry Withers ( 1882 - 1947)

William Henry Withers (1882-1947) Architect born in Brisbane, son of an undertaker. The family moved to New South Wales when Withers was a child and he trained as an architect at Sydney Technical College from 1899-1902, where he won the Kemp Memorial Scholarship in April 1902.

He worked as an architect with the Sydney Harbour Trust from around 1910 until his retirement in 1946 by which time the Trust had become the Maritime Services Board. He is remembered today as the supervising architect for the Maritime Services Board head office building at Circular Quay, Sydney (now the Museum of Contemporary Art).

He died at his home in the Sydney suburb of Campsie in May 1947.
