Map showing the provinces of Prigord and the wine-growing region of Bourdelois, around Bordeaux. The Prigord was one of the main battlegrounds between the French and English in the Hundred Years’ War during the fourteenth and fifteenth centuries. The De L’Isle family of mapmakers were a major influence on eighteenth-century French cartography. Guillaume produced his first map at the age of nine and was elected to the Academie Royale des Sciences at twenty-seven. He later received the high honour of being appointed the Premier Geographe du Roi.
