Jidai kagami (Mirror of the Ages)

Original Japanese woodblock prints from the beautiful series Jidai kagami (Mirror of the Ages) by Chikanobu (1838 – 1911).

This famous series documents the fashions styles of former times (from the Kenmu to the Meiji era) with a okubi-e (bust portrait) of a Binjin (beauty) depicted in the lower section of each woodblock and a rectangular panel at top making a reference to the era depicted.
