Description:

Map of the area bounded by St Vincents Gulf in the west to Balhannah in the east, Gawler River in the north and Wilunga in the south. Scarce county map of Adelaide from the first atlas devoted to the continent issued in Australia. 

Biography:

John Sands (1818–1873 )

In 1837 Sands came to Sydney for health reasons and with stationery valued at £500 set up business in George Street. In 1848 he took over a shop front  next to the General Post Office. By 1870 as stationers, booksellers, printers and account book manufacturers the firm was one of the largest of its in Australia and in that year won prizes for printing and book production at the Intercolonial Exhibition in Sydney.
