Description:

Rare map of the Pacific recording the tracks of John Meares in the ships Iphigenia and Felice 1788-89 who were at the centre of the Nootka Crisis during the summer of 1789. His vessels were seized at Nootka Sound by the Spaniards, who claimed all that coast as Spanish. War nearly broke out between England and Spain over the question. Meares based his map on Cook’s and Roberts’s world chart which was published in the official accounts of Cook’s third and final voyage.
