Description:
A striking map of the Malabar coast which was the centre of the spice trade before the discovery of the Spice Islands in the East Indies. Superbly embellished with an elaborate title cartouche containing natives of the land and its bounty at the lower left, an ornate scale of distance at lower right and with the seas with galleons and two compass roses.
The map extends from Goa, the main Portuguese controlled city on the northwest coast of India to Masulipatnam on the northeast coast, where the East India Company built its first factory in India.
