Scarce map of the world on Mercator’s projection with the tracks of Cook’s second and third voyages. Australia is shown prior to the discovery of Bass Strait. The strait was named after George Bass, after he and Matthew Flinders passed through it while circumnavigating Van Diemen’s Land in the Norfolk in 1798.
