Town Plan of Jedo (Edo, current-day Tokyo) with colourful title cartouche. This plan was printed just one year prior to the Great Meiwa Fire which destroyed thousands of houses, businesses and temples. Andrews was a surveyor, cartographer, mapseller and engraver of London. This early town plan is from ‘A collection of plans of the capital cities of Europe, and some remarkable cities in Asia, Africa & America’. Andrews’s superbly engraved and embellished series of town plans are usually found issued uncoloured, this set however has FULL ORIGINAL HAND COLOURING.
