Description:
Rare c.18th First Fleet romanticised view of the Australian landscape from a sketch made at the infant penal colony at Sydney Cove that was sent back to England.
Early artists attempting to capture the Australian landscape created works that reflected the darker light of Europe and it was not until the landscapes by John Glover in the 1830’s that artists and engravers in Australia would create works that were truly Australian.
