Description:

Adolphe Alphonse Assi (1840-86) was a member of the Paris Commune which was the socialist and revolutionary government that ruled Paris from 18 March to 28 May 1871.

Assi participated in the Italian volunteer forces of G. Garibaldi. He was an active participant in the January strike of 1870 in Crioso. He was taken to court in the third trial of the First International (1870). He was a member of the central committee of the National Guard. After Mar. 18, 1871, he was commandant of the City Hall and member of the Commission of Public Safety responsible for the production of military equipment. He leaned toward the Proudhonist wing. After the Paris Commune was crushed, Assi was exiled to New Caledonia, where he remained, working as an engineer, to the end of his life.

Louis Victor Paul Bacard (1845 - 1905)

French photographer. His father began working on his own account as a photgrapher in 1866 in a studio located at 79, rue de Rivoli. On August 1, 1868, in Enghien-les-Bains, Paul Bacard married Désirée Thiébault, the only daughter of Eugène Thiébault, a photographer who owned a studio at 31, boulevard Bonne-Nouvelle. Soon, Bacard moved into the premises and signed his photos "Maison Thiébault - Bacard Fils successor".
