Description:
"Since the ‘Trumerei’ (Dreaming) of the advertised novel’s title refers both to Schumann’s romantic piano piece and the heroine’s penchant for daydreaming, Reed shows her at the piano in a contemplative mood. The flat areas of colour in the design as well as the chrysanthemums jutting up diagonally in the foreground reflect the taste for Japanese style that was characteristic of the period. ‘The Poster’ magazine of November 1898, declared that ‘artistically refined people are in ecstasies with…Miss Trmerei, a charming combination of black, pale cream and yellow’ (p.201). Reed was responsible for some of the best American posters produced between 1895 and 1900. (Rennert, PAI-XXXI, 392)
