Description:

Pair of famous cricketing lithographs depicting Australian and English birds in their original period oak frames and printed card mounts.

They were published in 1893 to commemorate England winning their 5th consecutive home series and regaining the Ashes, having lost them to Australia in 1891-92.

The Australian birds depicted from left to right are; Budgerigar, King Parrot,  Cockatiel, Sulphur-crested Cockatoo, Red-tailed Black cockatoo, Major Mitchell Cockatoo, Crimson Rosella, Robin, Port Lincoln Parrot and the Kookaburra.

Harry Bright (1824 - 1876)

British ornithological artist. Very little is known of Harry Bright whose father Henry Barnabus Bright ( 1824 - 1876), also an artist was living in 1846 at 33 George STreet, Lambeth and married to Rachel Ratcliff. By 1871 he was living at Vine Cottage, The Oval Kennington and sent pictures to the Royal Academy from there.
