Description:

C18th Map of Malta

Rare map of  Malta where the Apostle Paul was shipwrecked while being transported to Rome as a prisoner. A small compass rose orients the map with north in the bottom right corner. A large cartouche contains a key listing 33 important sites including St. Paul’s Bay, Valetta and the various forts, castles and villages.

Biography:

Nicolas Sanson d’Abeville (1600-1667)

Geographer of the King of France, founder of the French school of cartography, and tutor to Louis XIII. He published over 300 maps, all with a high degree of accuracy and engraving quality.
