Description:

Large and impressive rare map of Asia based on the geographic sources by Nicolaus Blankaart (1625-1703), a Professor of Leiden who produced three maps (Africa, Asia and Europe) published in a Dutch text edition of J. Jansson’s ‘Atlas Antiquus’, in 1652. Decorative title cartouche in a Rocco frame supported by two cupids holding elongated ribbons and a dedication panel at bottom festooned with garlands of fruit by Nicolaus Blancardus to Gerardus Schaep and positioned above is his crest. The lower portion of the map is adorned with 12 medallions that depict the ancients. The map extends from the Mediterranean Sea in the west, to China in the east and south Java.
