Description:
Large early map of Australia dated 1814, showing a completed Australian coastline and including Bass Strait based on the discoveries made by Nicholas Baudin and Matthew Flinders on their important voyages of discovery and exploration. The colouring as noted in the colour key at lower right denotes the historical discoveries made by the English, French and Dutch.
Although Matthew Flinders had been the first to chart the entire continent, his imprisonment at Mauritius by the French enabled the Baudin expedition to publish the accounts for their voyage and issue the first chart in 1811.
