Description:

Early engraving of the crew of the Astrolabe which under the command of Dumont D’Urville sailed into Jervis Bay on November 1826. The scene shown is of the crew sharing their catch with the local Aborigines. The engraving is based on the original lithographed view first issued in the published accounts of Dumont D’Urvilles, Voyage de la corvette l’Astrolabe. Atlas historique…., published Paris 1833.

Victor Marie Felix Danvin (1802 -1842) was a French landscape painter. He attended the École des Beaux-Arts and studied with Guérin, Lethière, Watelet and Rémond. He exhibited in the salon from 1831.
