Description:

Robert Muir was granted one square mile of land in 1866 for sugar on Nerang Creek that became the Benowa Plantation. In its time Benowa was classed as a large-scale plantation. By 1876 the settlement of Benowa had three sugar mills, a hotel, a racecourse, a courthouse, a store and a blacksmith. From the Illustrated Sydney News.
