This is one of a number of photographs of historic subjects that King made, this original image was an engraving in Collins account of Sydney. King’s family emigrated from Dorset in 1857 and apprenticed to J.Hubert. King set up a studio in 1880 and by 1890 his reputation had spread to all the colonies, his main source of income being portrait photography. He travelled extensively recording the towns, aborigines and colonial life. King was a successful and well known photographer receiving various major prizes in international exhibitions.
