Description:
Harold Byrne trained in oils under Julian Ashton and was taught etching by Sydney Long. The term ‘Brown out’ was used when street lights and windows were turned off or covered for fear of Japanese aerial attacks during World War II. These precautions were in place from December 1941 until May 1942. Byrne’s works are represented in the National Gallery of Australia.
