Biography:

Silvester Diggles (1817-1880)

Painter, professional photographer, musician & naturalist. Diggle’s outstanding artistic achievement was work on “Ornithology of Australia”, which was issued to subscribers in twenty-one parts. In 1877 money was not available to print further parts. Worry over Ornithology contributed to the breakdown of his health. This work is one of the great rarities of Australian ornithology and this example has excellent strong fresh original hand colouring
