 Fabulous image of a hand pushed through paper, holding Australian Christmas cards.

The first locally designed and produced Christmas cards were made after John Sands instigated a competition for ‘which designs for thoroughly Australian cards should alone be admissible’. Nearly seven hundred entries were received, put on public display and judged by the Art Gallery of New South Wales.
