Description:

Scarce c.20th map of the planning scheme for the city of Sydney which included a proposal for the demolition of the Queen Victoria Building to make way for a civic square, underground parking station and a multi-storey building on the site.

The proposal had been announced in 1959, by the then Lord Mayor of Sydney, Harry Jensen. Debate about the fate of the building continued throughout the 1960’s with numerous demonstrations and objections until the proposal was finally quashed.
