Biography:

Miyagawa Shuntei (1873-1914)

Little biographical information is available on Shuntei and the high regard he is held, is based on the fine body of woodblocks he produced during his working career.

Shuntei was born in 1873 in Aichi prefecture of Japan. He began his career as an illustrator for books and newspapers and flourished at the at the end of the nineteenth century, producing his greatest woodblocks during this period.  

Shuntei is regarded as the artist who best links in style the Shin Hanga artists such as Goyo, Shinsui and Kotondo, who were to follow him.
