Biography:

John Paine (1833-1908)

Born in UK, Payne worked as a photographer around Tamworth NSW between 1869-74. In 1875 he established a studio at Waterloo, selling advertising views of the city and the Blue Mountains. In 1879 he was awarded a Silver medal at the Sydney International Exhibition. In 1884 he travelled with the Government photographer to New Guinea to record the establishment of the British protectorate, these photos were never published.
