Description:

Magnificent large plan and panorama of present day Istanbul orientated with north to the right in untouched original hand colouring. The detailed panorama of the city at bottom includes a key of thirty prominent landmarks. The title at top is in German and Latin. Being the great trading city that Istanbul had become the numerous ships are shown either at anchor or sailing on the Bosphorus plying their trade.

Biography:

Mathias Seutter (1678-1756)

Mapmaker, engraver and publisher of Augsburg. A pupil of Homann he set up on his account in 1707 & appointed Geographer to the Imperial Court.
