Description:
Rare lithograph of John and Elizabeth’s, Camden Park Estate, from the French voyage of exploration under the command of Bougainville’s which visit Sydney. It was named Bougainville Falls by Governor Brisbane and renamed Wentworth Falls in 1869.
The French had been given secret orders to report on Sydney’s defense capabilities, which Bougainville and his officers travelled as far afield as possible, sketching and recording what they saw. The grandeur of the Blue Mountains was so much admired by the French artists, that they declaimed it exceeded everything they had seen during their whole of their expedition.
