The Southern Hemisphere, published nearly thirty years before Cook mapped the east coast of Australia. Two insets show the Solomon Islands and Cape Circoncision on Bouvet Island.(a Norwegian possession half way between the Cape of Good Hope and the Arctic Circle). When Captain Bouvet de Lozier discovered the ice-bound cape in 1739 he mapped it 8 degrees too far east, so when Captain Cook attempted to find the island in 1772 he failed, deciding that Bouvier had mapped an iceberg by mistake.
