Biography:
Joseph Smit (1836-1929)
Born in the Netherlands, he was invited to England to do the lithography for Sclater’s Exotic Ornithology. He did Wolf’s Zoological Sketches and Elliot’s Birds of Paradise. He contributed regularly to the Transactions and Proceedings of the Zoological Society, Ibis, and The Field.
