Rare engraved map of Stanthorpe.

Alluvial tin was discovered at Stanthorpe in 1854, but the first tin-mining selection officially recorded was taken up on 22 April 1872. A number of companies were quickly established to work rich ground adjacent to the town. One of the largest was the New Banca Tin Mining Company which employed 100 men and had a capital of 60,000 pounds.
