Description:

Rare map from Robert Morden’s miniature atlas, “New Description and State of England”, which was based on the same larger map issued in his “Camden’s Britannia”.

Mapmaker:

Robert Morden (16501703)

Morden was an English mapmaker and publisher. Little is known of him other than between 1675 and 1703 he operated under the sign of the Atlas in Cornhill and New Cheapside. His most important maps were the ones of British counties which for the first time provided information directly sourced by the landowners within each county. He also produced a number of important maps of America.
