Highly decorative map of Europe including the coloured crests of countries in Europe. Showing Europe according to its then current political situation.
Cherubs represent European art and science, which can be seen through their activities including sculpting, writing, painting, reading and calculations. The male and female figure situated on either side of the map symbolise industry and agriculture whilst a seated monarch above personifies the Kingdoms of Europe.
The armorial crests include; England, Spain, France, Turkey, Switzerland, Russia, Prussia, Germany, Sweden, and Italy.

Victor Levasseur (1800–1870)
French cartographer and surveyor. He was attached to the Cadastral Survey of the city of Paris and is best known for his Atlas National des Departments et des Possessions de la France in which all the maps are beautifully embellished.
