Description:
Large decorative c.17th map of Asia from the Golden Age of Dutch mapmaking.
carce large Dutch period map by Danckert of Asia based on Frederik de Wit map. Published in Danckert’s Atlas after 1696. Koeman Dan 3 (6) and not in his earlier Atlas as often described. This was first published in 1680 Koeman Dan 1 (4) and Dan 2(4) and identified by the title Accuratissima totius Asiae… and changed as in our example to; Exactissima Asiae Delineatio…. The map extends from the Mediterranean in the west, to Japan in the east and from northern China and Russia, south to Australia. A large and sumptuous decorative title cartouche, made up of oriental figures and a camel with packaged trade goods.
From Danckert’s, Atlas.
Justus Danckert (1635 - 1701)
Danckerts was the son of Cornelis Danckert I (1603-1656), who established the successful Danckerts map publishing business in Amsterdam.
