Ferdinand Moritz Kraus (1841 - 1918)

Kraus was a civil engineer and geologist born 1841 in Germany. At 16 he went to London where he qualified as a civil engineer and was later elected a fellow of the Linnean and Geological Societies. He arrived at Melbourne in the Black Eagle in January 1859. By 1870 he had become surveyor with the Geological Survey of Victoria and was also mining registrar and inspector without additional salary.
