Description:

Scarce tourist guide with black and white photographic illustrations of Port Macquarie.

Textured folded greeting card with embossed border in a rope design on the cover around an open window face showing a black and white photograph titled ‘Port Macquarie from Church Tower’ with text below ‘Greetings from/ Port Macquarie’. Inside are fold out black and white photographs printed on paper including Port Macquarie looking west across Long Bridge, West Port Macquarie, Nobby’s, Soldiers’ Memorial, Church of England interior, Port Macquarie looking east from West Port, St Thomas’ Church, Tacking Point Lighthouse, Post Office, Flagstaff Hill and “The Avenue”. The card was published by Sawtell and Consoli. Sawtell and Consoli was a gift store located in Horton Street, Port Macquarie which operated from 1907 to 1937. The store started originally as a music warehouse and after renovations in late 1917, the store advertised that it had extended its merchandise range of fancy and variety goods to include music, giftware, toys, stationery, rifles, books, fishing tackle, tobacco, bicycles, motor car requisites and more. On 1 September 1937 the management of ‘The Gift Store’ as it was then called, changed hands with Mr Thomas Consoli who had carried on the business under the name Sawtell and Consoli for 30 years selling to Mr A Ryan. reference PortMacquarie Museum
