HMS Victory is a 104-gun first-rate ship of the line of the Royal Navy, ordered in 1758, laid down in 1759 and launched in 1765. She is best known for her role as Lord Nelson’s flagship at the Battle of Trafalgar in 1805.

Biography:

Thomas Goldsworthy Dutton (1820-1891)

Born in 1820 in London, Middlesex, England and named after his ironmonger father.  Married Martha Foster on 27 Apr 1843, at St John, Hackney, Middlesex. 

He was one of the most famous C19th maritime artists of ship portraits.  A noted watercolorist, and painter in oils his works are numerous institutional collections.
