Harveys’ Isle: Cook Islands
Palmerston Isles: Palmerston Island is a coral atoll in the Cook Islands discovered by Cook on 16 June 1774.
Turtle Isle: Vatoa, Lau group, Fiji. Vatoa was the only island Fijian island visited by Cook. The island was sighted on 2 July 1774. The next day, a Sunday, the Master and some of Cook’s crew went ashore, “thinking to speak with the people not more than 20 in number who were Arm’d with Clubs and Spears, but the moment he set foot on Shore they retired, he left ashore some Medals, Nails and a Knife ….. Near the Reef were seen several Turtle which occasioned my giving that name to the Isle.”
Savage Isle: Niue isles. Cook made three attempts to land 22 June 1774, but was rebuffed by the islanders. ‘The Conduct and aspect of these islanders occasioned my giving it the Name of Savage Island.’ Cook Journals II, pl.64

Captain Tobias Furneaux (1735 - 1781)
Tobias was born near Plymouth and joined the Royal Navy in 1755 and became a midshipman on H.M.S. Marlborough. He was promoted to second lieutenant in 1759 and sailed on the H.M.S Dolphin under Samuel Wallis for the southern hemisphere and returning in 1760. On 29 November next year he was promoted commander and appointed captain of H.M.S. Adventure under James Cook's who had overall command
