Description:

Superb French map of the Eastern Hemisphere, surrounded by an engraved Rocco frame, festooned with putti, cartographical instruments and globes. The elaborate border was only added to the deluxe edition of Brion’s atlas.

On either side of the map are pasted sheets of information pertaining to the map. Australia is shown according to The French School of Cartography, with a imaginary east coast joining Van Diemens Land, the Solomon’s and New Guinea.

Louis Brion De La Tour (1756 - 1803)

Louis Brion de la Tour (1756-1803) was a French cartographer and geographer active in the late 18th and early 19th centuries. He was a member of the French Academy of Sciences and produced a number of important maps and atlases, many of which were used in the French Revolutionary and Napoleonic Wars. He is considered one of the most important French cartographers of his time.
