William Darton (1755 - 1819)
English mapmaker, engraver, printseller, bookseller and publisher, born in Tottenham son of John Darton inn keeper. Apprenticed (Clothworkers) as an engraver to Thomas Dent of Ball Alley. Discharged from his master by a judgement in the Lord Mayor's Court 16 May 1773 and turned over to Francis Baker, Citizen & Haberdasher to August 1775. He produced numerous maps and atlases, including Darton’s New Miniature Atlas and Complete Atlas of the English Channel.
