Biography:

Albert Charles Cooke (1836-1902)

Cooke was a painter, engraver, draughtsman and illustrator. Throughout his career he worked for many of the Illustrated newspapers, such as the Illustrated Sydney News, Illustrated Australian News, The Australasian Sketcher and The Leader. He was also well known for a series of birds eye views of a number of Australian cities and towns.

Rudolph Jenny (1827-1905)

Jenny was born in Solothurn, Switzerland and came to Victoria about 1855. Details of his early career are unknown, until 1861 when he appears to have been employed as a wood-engraver by Frederick Grosse at 62 Collins Street East, Melbourne. A patent for printing line drawings by a technique called Bismuthography was granted to Frederick Grosse and Rudolph Jenny on 16 February that year. Jenny succeeded to Grosse’s business following the latter’s appointment to the Government Printing for Melbourne Punch and Tasmanian Punch.
