Biography:

Samuel Howitt (1756-1822)

From a Nottinghamshire family of
squires, Howitt became a professional artist specialising in sporting subjects.
He worked as a drawing master in Ealing and then in 1783 he exhibited for the
first time at the Incorporated Society of Artists. He married Thomas
Rowlandson’s sister.
