Large engraving depicting numerous historical views of early ballooning history and portraits of famous aeronauts.

The portraits include: Mrs Sage, Vincent Lunardi, Jacques Charles, Jean-Pierre Blanchard, James Sadler, Henry Coxwell, Charles Green, the Montgolfier Brothers and Jean Francois Pilatre de Rozier. 

The scenes depict; notable ascents, including: the first manned ascent in a Montgolfier balloon; the ascent of Le Flesselles; Major Mony’s perilous landing in the sea; the destruction of Charles and Robert’s balloon at Gonesse; Green’s night voyage to Nassau, and Robert Cocking’s parachute

Joseph Frederic Weedon (1846 - 1924)

Weedon worked as an artist for The Illustrated London News. He also used the name Julian Fredrick. He was born on 3 October 1846 in St. Pancras, London Weedon, on 14 November 1858 at St. George’s Church, Bloomsbury. His father, Joseph Henry Weedon, was a boot maker, born in 1826. He was a prolific artist and illustrator for numerous books.
