Description:
The month of January, showing four women playing the traditional new year’s game Hanetsukiis, similar to badminton without a net. It is played with a rectangular wooden paddle called a hagoita and a brightly coloured shuttlecock. Often played by girls at the New Year, the game can be played in two fashions: by one person attempting to keep the shuttlecock aloft as long as possible, or by two people batting it back and forth. Girls who fail to hit the shuttlecock get marked on the face with India Ink. A Kite has gone into the tree. Shuntei was born in Aichi Prefecture, and lived in Edo. He was a pupil first of Watanabe Shoka, and later of Tomioka Eisen. He is best known for his striking compositions and depictions of beautiful women. Series Twelve Months of Beauties
