Description:
Dramatic tryptich woodblock of the Japanese Navy Attacking the fortress at the entrance to Port Arthur, 21 November 1894 between Japan and the Chinese forces of the Qing dynasty during the First Sino Japanese War. Considered unimpregnable the Fort at Lushunkou soon surrendered due to the superior force of the Japanese.

Nagashima (or Mosai) Shungyō (1870 - 1905)
Little is known about the life of Nagashima Shungyō. Chaikin and the Tahara Municipal Museum state he was the son of Utagawa Yoshitora (fl. c. 1836-1882). Chaikin also writes that he called himself Mōsai after 1874 and was also known as Utagawa Shungyō. Most of his known prints are of the Sino-Japanese War or kaika-e (prints of modernisation and Westernisation).
