First edition of this scarce chart Detailed map of Australia and the Pacific. Australia showing the recent charting of the southern coast and the discovery of Bass Strait. A feature of this map is the interesting historical naming. The western half of the mainland is named Neu Holland and below this is the name, Ulimarou. The historical discoveries on the western and northern coasts reflect the Dutch role up to the discoveries made by Tasman on his second voyage in 1643-3 and inlcude those made on the western side of Cape York Peninsula from 1606 to 1643-4. The southern coast show the recent discoveries made by Baudin in the ships the Naturalist and Geographe in 1802-3. The eastern half is shown with discoveries of James Cook in the Endeavour in 1770.
