Exquisite and very rare map of the province of Shaanxi detailing the ranges of the Qinling Mountains in the south and the Yellow (‘Hoang Ho’), Luo (‘Lo Ho’), Jin (‘Kin Ho’), and Wei (‘Hoei Ho’) rivers. Important cities and towns are featured including the ancient city of Xi’an (‘Si-n-gan-fou’), one of the four great ancient capitals of China and the eastern terminus of the silk road. The Great Wall of China is depicted along the northern border. Features an elaborate chinoise title cartouche. From Nouvel atlas de la Chine, de la Tartarie Chinoise and et du Thibet. D’Anville, a noted French cartographer, was appointed royal geographer and elected to the Academie des Sciences in 1773. A map editor who designed new maps by collecting and comparing as many sources as possible, D’Anville was renowned for his scrupulous attention to detail.
