Description:

Superb C18th view of Ambon which was an important centre for spice trading in the C15th-C18th. 

Ambon is the capital of the Island of Ambon, Indonesia and previously part of the group of islands collectively known as the Spice Islands. 

On February 1605 Van der Haghen’s fleet arrived in the Bay and merely the sight of the ships persuaded the Portueguese Governor Caspar de Melo, to surrender without any fighting.
