Description:

Rare engraving of the launch the Sydney built paddle steamer, Leichardt, on 15th November, 1864.

The spectators, included his Excellency the Governor, Lord John Taylour, the Colonial Secretary, the Minister for Lands, and a number of principal merchants.  The Leichardt was a paddle-wheel steamer, 187ft. in length, 24ft in beam, with engines of 110 horse power abd a  carrying capacity of 500 tons. The figure-head is a half length figure of the ill-fated explorer whose name she bears.
