Description:

Very decorative map surrounded with a Rocco frame and with putti and cartographic tools by Louis Brion De La Tour (fl 1756-1803). On either side are panels of text. Beyond the fact that Brion was an engineer by profession and held the post of Ingenieur-Geographe du Roi, little is known of his career. He published a wide range of statistical works and a number of atlases. Published by the well known French mapmaker Louis Charles Desnos (1725-1805).

Louis Brion De La Tour (1756 - 1803)

Louis Brion de la Tour (1756-1803) was a French cartographer and geographer active in the late 18th and early 19th centuries. He was a member of the French Academy of Sciences and produced a number of important maps and atlases, many of which were used in the French Revolutionary and Napoleonic Wars. He is considered one of the most important French cartographers of his time.
