Description:
Fabulous and informative “Tourist” map extending from Newcastle to the Victorian border and west as far as Cootamundra.
The map clearly illustrates that there was a large use of motor vehicles for holidaying around the state. The map includes locations of “Streams stocked with Trout & Bass”. An extensive key noting condition of roads, accommodation, camping grounds, petrol supplies, telephones and even “Aero Landing Grounds”. There are numerous interesting notations at various locations including one at Seven Mile Beach “Motor Racing Course”.
This is one of four Tourist maps that the Department of Lands produced as shown by the inset below the ‘Notes’ listing the four maps;
1. North Eastern
2. South Eastern
3. Central Southern
4. Central Northern
These maps are all rare due to their ephemeral nature.
